Re: [hylafax-users] Problem receiving faxes from a particular fax machine / need workaround or fix

Well, a true but of irony last night, when I was testing to see if the resetmodem was going to fix the problem or not (I changed a few settings to have hsfconfig part of the uucp group so that it would actually work). The person sent me the fax (again) so I could get the modem to wedge (again), and what happens? The fax goes through! Works perfectly, emails it to me in .ps format (which Adobe Distiller took it and made it a pdf on my windows machine), and everything worked great.

Then the whole server crashed.

LOL, I am still trying to figure out what caused the crash, be it power management settings, or the vnc session that I was using, or the very new release of Ubuntu (stability). Can't seem to determine what it is by logs, but either way HYLAFAX WORKS!!

Now I just have to monitor that the 'wedged' modem resets properly (I just have to wait now for some fax to wedge it).

I am also going to look further into the drivers here and see if there is a way to turn on some kind of debug logging to see if maybe there is an actual fix. The other side of the coin is that I could get slightly newer drivers straight from linexant (sp?) as a commercial product, (thus also paying for some support), but I really didn't want to go that far if not necessary.

Thanks Lee for your help, HylaFax+ is a fantastic product and if you want to make a note that the Edgy/Debian release of HylaFax+ also works great on Ubuntu (I compiled it the first time around, then on a rebuild of the server, I used the .deb package). 5.2.4 works with no hiccups thusfar.

Thanks again
Aaron

Thusfar still having the same problem, however I added the resetmodem script to reset the modem on wedge (testing that right now to make sure it works) (does it execute as user:uucp / group:uucp)?

I think that it does run as uucp:uucp, but check on it.

The fact that the modem became unresponsive for a very long period of
time to AT commands for which it should have responded indicates that it
"crashed".

Thanks,

Lee.
