Ok, we are back up and running, I have moved to Ubuntu 8.04, Hylafax+ 5.2.4, with the same (hsf modem driver).  Thusfar still having the same problem, however I added the resetmodem script to reset the modem on wedge (testing that right now to make sure it works) (does it execute as user:uucp / group:uucp)?

Can you elaborate further on that (ie. What in the logs tells you that the modem crashed)?  I am wondering because maybe there is a way to debug the driver (?) to find out why it is crashing.
