I haven't been able to receive faxes so far on my HylaFAX server.

You're using a previously untested modem, the i536ep , so you're in slightly uncharted waters ... and assuming the modem actually will do what it's supposed to, it may require some work to get your modem config file correct.

Dec 19 16:45:40.75: [19778]: RECV training at v.17 14400 bit/s
Dec 19 16:45:40.75: [19778]: <-- [11:AT+FRM=145\r]
Dec 19 16:45:45.27: [19778]: --> [0:]
Dec 19 16:45:45.27: [19778]: MODEM <Empty line>
Dec 19 16:45:45.27: [19778]: <-- data [1]
Dec 19 16:45:45.49: [19778]: MODEM <Timeout>
Dec 19 16:45:45.49: [19778]: <-- [9:AT+FRS=7\r]
Dec 19 16:45:45.55: [19778]: --> [2:OK]

From this I can tell two things. 1) the modem isn't honoring the abort signal, and 2) V.17 reception may possibly be incompatible or broken. I would recommend putting these into your modem config file, and re-testing:

 Class1RecvAbortOK: 0
 Class1RMQueryCmd: "!24,48,72,96"
