Re: [hylafax-users] Problem when sending from 2 fax on the same line at the same time

Hi David,

We once had this problem too, but I haven't heard of a solution. In our case, we only have hylafax on one line but the faxes get sent continuously. Our problem was that after a "no carrier detected", the next fax would "open the line" and the previous fax was sent to the wrong customer. As much as I recall, our problem was solved by fixing the "no carrier detected" in disabling incoming calls on this number, which was the actual reason why no carrier was detected by hylafax.

In your situation, if possible, I'd take one line only for hylafax, that would probably "fix" the problem. However, I'd be glad to know how to really fix the problem. Maybe it's not even a hylafax problem but a modem problem...

Mit freundlichen Grüssen - kind regards - Meilleures salutations Erich Iseli

This is my first post to a User Discussion List; first of all excuse me for my mistakes on english.

We have two faxes; one manual (a fax machine) and other hylafax 4.2.3 with a Creative modemBlaster (rockwell) configured as class1 connected to the same line.

Today we sent a page from hylafax at 9:00; the carrier where not
detected and continue trying to connect 5 times; in the fifth another
person was sending a fax with the manual one, to another number; hylafax
got the line and sent his page AFTER that the page from the person
was sent; so sending it to THE WRONG NUMBER.

Does anyone have a similar configuration?
Why, if the modem didn't get a tone, was the fax sent to the wrong number?
Does anyone know to change behaviour in case of no carrier detected (to try only once)?

Thank you in advance for all. I can give logs or config if needed. Please advice.

David

Thank you a lot, Erich!.

Actually we receive faxes through Hylafax (not the fax machine), so we can't disable incoming calls.
And we can't let Hylafax alone in the line, yet. We are using Hylafax only to send documents that we can send from the computer; and the fax machine is used for paper; the fax in getting substituted by the e-mail day by day.

The only thing I don't understand is that, if Hylafax is working as class1 (so is taking "directly" over the hardware modem) WHY HYLAFAX FAILS FIGURING OUT THAT THE LINE IS BUSY by checking the tone!

Here the first lines of the log (previous logs over the same fax reflects "no carrier detected". As you can see the REMOTE CSI is not the number dialed (the number was dialed, but we were sending another fax).

The "no carrier detected" problem could be the modem (first we tried with a very cheap crappy modem that got a lot of them so we changed it), but this one is recommended on http://www.hylafax.org/content/Cheap_Class1_Modems

Thank you again, Erich, in any way. I hope anyone (perhaps developers) knows what happens here. Today we can't send any more through Hylafax for security reasons.

Best regards,

David Losada
