Re: [hylafax-users] Document conversion using typerules

After some trial and error I found out that FaxModify is not exactly the best place to put document conversion scripts.
First of all when I submit a fax job through an external client the job description file records the associated documents as
data:0::docq/doc181.ps.118
rather than
postscript:0::docq/...
This means that the original document is not recognised as any of the native hylafax formats. (Notice that issuing Form PS command prior to submission does not change anything.)
Now what happens is that none of the ps2fax, tiff2fax or pdf2fax scripts are called and hence etc/FaxModify never gets called either.

Well, I did tell you before...

Could you explain how hylafax verifies submitted documents and if there is a hook to inject my conversion script in the early stages of processing jobs?

The behavior may vary a bit depending on what version of HylaFAX you're using. (In HylaFAX+ there is a deliberate effort to ensure that when a client specifies PDF or Postscript that the uploaded document is exactly that.)

Basically what's supposed to happen is that the client connects to the server and indicates the type of file it's going to submit, and then it submits it. The server is supposed to check things out and then eventually faxq picks it up and sends it and uses the client-supplied information in the q-file to do the formatting, etc.

The HylaFAX server only accepts Postscript, PDF, TIFF, and sometimes PCL. If your document is not one of those then the client needs to convert it first to be one of those.

Thanks,

Lee.
