I would initially guess that you're having trouble with flow control. Without ECM being used (the receiver doesn't support it) the receiver will confirm pages as received that will contain image problems. The most-likely cause of the problems you're reporting is that when buffering data to the modem that there is a bug somewhere in the modem or in the USB hardware or drivers which caused the data to get lost.


You've reported that you've resolved the problem by switching to Class 2. And while I'm glad you've resolved the problem you'll not want to stay at Class 2 because you don't support ECM at all there.

I would suggest upgrading to HylaFAX+ 5.4.2 in order to eliminate all suspicion that this may be a HylaFAX bug, and then switch back to Class 1 by re-running faxsetup and faxaddmodem. If the problem persists there, then work with the ModemFlowControl and ModemRate modem config options. See:
