Note that the modem responded with 0x11. Is that part of XON/XOFF? It's possible that the modem is doing software flow-control and you have it set for hardware. Change from "rtscts" to "xonxoff" and see if you fare better.

thanks for the efforts. I uncommented ModemFlowControl: xonxoff in /var/spool/hylafax/etc/config.ttyS1 and restarted the service.
Now errors are earlier (I got two different, with same number). It seems modems can't talk.
I'm really sad :(
