Thanks for the info. Looking over these links it appears that they require a
lot of command line hassles to send or view a fax. Do you know of a good GUI
front end that would simplify the procedure?

The HOW-TO has various sending clients and setting up receiving once just
lets hylafax prepare an email with a pdf (or whatever you want)
attachment. That's all I did. I get faxes in evolution or alpine and
just send via the cli. But clients are described in the HOW-TO.
