i'm trying to avoid more software complexity... adding asterisk will
just make my life harder thant it already is. I'm prepared to spend
few hundred $$ on some external serial modems as a temp solution.

There is somethng I wanted to ask. I was looking at the config files
in /var/spool/fax/config I went through some of the
multitech/conexant/rockwell ones. They all seem to be Class2 (except
for the ones specifically for class 1.)

Right now I am running my modems as Class1. Is there something about
using rockwell chipsets as class2 that makes it better? or will any
modem (specifically my multitech 5600ZDX) will do just as well in
class1.
