Ah saw this when I got home.. I'll have to get back to you on the
hardware models on the 26th.
I talked with our networking people and we're gonna conduct some
tests. Ends up there is
one line out of 5 that already was on POTS but wasn't used that much
(maybe 200 received calls)
as opposed to our main line which got 30,000. Using xferfaxlog we
deduced that the line on the
POTS got 0% "failed to detect data carrier" related errors (but got
other ones which seem to be
standard like when they call the fax line by accident ...etc) The
heavy line has 20% (combined) errors of
"failed to detect data carrier" errors and "failure to train modems"
and that one is behind the gateway.

We're gonna put that heavy line on POTS and monitor the errors for a
month. Relate the percentage of
errors from while it was on the POTS to when it was behind the
gateway. If the percentage is low then
we can assume the gateway had something to do with it. I'll post the
percentages here if it will be useful
for you guys to help with the analysis.

Thanks and merry christmass.
