Re: [hylafax-users] MODEM WRITE ERROR: errno 5

Hi Andrew,

Thanks for the response. Do you have any recommendations as to a model # for the Agere Venus Chipset?

And the link you provided was for a PCI-e card, I'm looking for PCI cards.

Thanks for the response - hope to hear from you soon!

Hi Patrick,

You will be unable to get either the Agere WinModem or the USR 'hardware'
modem working reliably. Despite what you may have been told, USR do not
make 'hardware' PCI modems and therefore you will have the same problems as
the WinModem.

My advice is to get a true hardware modem based on the Agere Venus chipset.
Alternatively, if this is an installation then invest in a Mainpine IQ
Express fax board;

Subject: [hylafax-users] MODEM WRITE ERROR: errno 5

Hi all,

To start off, I'm running CentOS 5.1 with the latest version of the binary
Hylafax located on Hylafax's web site.

I have an internal Agere 56k WinModem using the martian drivers. When
sending a fax to this machine, the fax machine responds with an error of "No
Answer". When I tail /etc/hylafax/log/c000000009 I see this:

Dec 21 13:07:24.04: [ 3856]: SESSION BEGIN 000000009 14086811528 Dec 21

answer (T.30 T1 timeout)

My kernel sees the modem, and it looks like it tries to connect, then I get
the write error. I was googling around and the only things I could find
were people saying that I'm SOL. I'm planning on purchasing a US Robotics
internal PCI hardware modem, but if possible I'd like to get the Agere
working.

Has anyone had luck with getting the Ageres to work properly in CentOS 5.1?

Thanks in advance.

Patrick
