It tells HylaFAX to use a software pause instead of actually listening 
for silence on the line.

It works in Class 1.0, yes, but not in a V.34-Fax.  HylaFAX will use it 
when appropriate.

That said, listening for silence is one of those features that I 
wouldn't discard so quickly.
