[hylafax-users] Multitech 5634ZBA USB and 5:ATH0\r

We are running SLES9 and SLES10sp1 on several servers and thought hylafax might be worth a try. After trying an older Multitech serial modem (unsuccessfully) I gave the usb model a chance. "5:ATH0\r" an old friend from several posts is the result with hylafax-4.4.1-1suse100.i586.rpm (all other versions I tried -- same result) installed:

On 4 different servers I have tried every possible combination (binary or compiled) and get the same result. With three weeks gone by it is time to ask for some help.  Any ideas will be most appreciated.
