But if the config.site that you supply is meant to indicate that #-listed
values are the default, #DIR_LIBEXEC="/usr/lib/fax" should, I think, show
as #DIR_LIBEXEC="/usr/local/sbin". At least one other as-shipped entry
seems wrong to me too; shouldn't #SCRIPT_SH="/bin/sh" really be
#SCRIPT_SH="/bin/bash"?

I'm not sure that the commented-out values in config.site are meant to indicate defaults. It's been years since anyone touched that, I think.

If you have better suggestions for what should be in there, then I'm entirely open to changing things around there.

As far as what the actual default is for any of them... I don't know without looking.

Well, it would make sense for the file to show the defaults that the configure script tries to use.

I've made a change to config.site for #DIR_LIBEXEC for the next release (points to /usr/local/sbin).

SCRIPT_SH really does default to /bin/sh. If /bin/sh doesn't exist then it searches in order for "bash", "ksh", and then "sh".

Thanks,

Lee.
