Hi Marcel, You will get lots of differing opinions on this... but here's what I would suggest that you consider when making a selection; (1) ask yourself how important this fax application is to you and/or your customers. Do you require failure rates below 1% or below 0.1% ? (2) if you require failure rates below 1% then only buy a modem based on the Agere (now LSI) Venus chipset. (3) if you require failure rates below 0.1% then only buy a modem based on the Agere (now LSI) CFAX34 chipset (this is the replacement for Venus). (4) is it acceptable to reboot the server every time the modem has a problem ('wedges') ? If not, is it acceptable to power cycle the modem (assuming it's an external modem) ? (5) do you send/receive fax's with lots of pages or containing images. If you do then V.34 and JBIG will be important to you. (6) do you want or need simple installation and maintenance ? (7) a modem vendor who is actively developing fax firmware is a requirement. The fax application can fix a lot of issues but by no means all. (8) a modem vendor who actively supports your chosen fax application will be a bonus. (9) a modem vendor who undertakes fax machine compatibility tests will save you a lot of grief. Lee has expressed some opinions about the advantages of analog over digital... you might want to search hylafax.org to see if you can find his postings. Mainpine products are available in Germany from our reseller Mapleleaf Technologies. They sell a lot of HylaFAX and Asterisk systems so you might want to give them a call to discuss your requirements; www.mapleleaf-technologies.com Regards ANDREW RINALDI Mainpine Limited - Support USA +1 503 822 9944 | Asia/Europe +44 1225 869439 andrew.rinaldi@xxxxxxxxxxxx | www.mainpine.com -----Original Message----- From: Coke Kirsch [mailto:coke2010@xxxxxx] Sent: 26 April 2007 00:06 To: andrew.rinaldi@xxxxxxxxxxxx Cc: hylafax-users@xxxxxxxxxxx Subject: Re: [hylafax-users] Problem with AVM card Hello Andrew, maybe you are right and I shouldn't use an isdn card. In fact, I would buy some analog modems if the result is really that good you say. What should a good analog modem cost? Do you know a good one, which I could also buy in Germany? I have no real experience which properties are important for a good working fax modem which is compatible to most fax machines.
