It should be.

In hosts.hfaxd:
	ServerTracing: 0xFFFFFF

It will then log to syslog.  On debian, it will probably appear in
/var/log/daemon.log.

Also - are you changing hosts.hfaxd in /etc/hylafax or
/var/spool/hylafax/etc?

Remember, debian has the "twinned" config directory, but the running
hfaxd only reads the one under $SPOOL/etc.
