Re: [hylafax-users] new community site

Darren would like everyone to believe that "the HylaFAX project" is already goverened democratically. This is not true. The HylaFAX project is goverened by the benevolent presidency of Sam Leffler, who has stepped away and has let the license govern in his stead.

Sam Leffler voluntarily withdrew from involvement in HylaFAX years ago. He may be a benevolent president of some HylaFAX project somewhere, but the one at hylafax.org, which has identified itself as the HylaFAX Development Team for years, is a democratic collective of volunteers who make decisions by concensus. Sam has no problem with this.

What Darren is really saying, though, is that he feels _hylafax.org_ is governed democratically.

The group of volunteers that have called themselves The HylaFAX Development Team, who have operated out of hylafax.org, is governed by democratic principles, yes.

Please, I renew my appeal for you to brand your site in a way that does not make it look like hylafax.org, and I once again request that you not announce releases of HylaFAX in the name of "The HylaFAX Development Team" that are not, in fact, sanctioned by that body. There can be no argument that this term has been used by the hylafax.org community, and I don't see any reason why you would want to use it anyway.

This isn't complicated. Many people have supported my request publicly here, and it doesn't seem unreasonable. Please, by all means bless and cut as many releases as you like and encourage people to use them, but don't do it in the name of an organization whose democratic process and priciples you have chosen to ignore, and have deliberately circumvented.

I don't understand your objection to this. How you can reasonably call yourself "The HylaFAX Development Team" (a name which the hylafax.org developers have used for years), and why you would even want to? Aren't you trying to distinguish yourself from us as much as possible?

It's not a big request, please just do a little rebranding, and do release announcements in the name of "Our Development Team", or the SourceForge HylaFAX Development Team", or "We the People". If you like perhaps we can even call those who choose to work within the democratic process of hylafax.org the "HylaFAX.org HylaFAX Development Team". I would of course need to propose this on-list and have it discussed because I can't just "make it so" like you can, but I suspect many will see benefit in creating a distinction ... most of the people who have replied to these threads have supported making the distinction clear.
