Mailing lists aren't just for sending mail and getting new answers 
written to your questions; they're also for searching the archives and 
finding *old* answers, and for keeping abreast of the project's status.

Searching archives is distinctly inconvenient when those archives are 
fragmented.

Keeping abreast of project status is more difficult when many relevant 
messages may be sent only to one list or the other.

Consequently, speaking as a user, fragmented mailing lists are less 
useful than unified ones when there isn't a clear topical distinction.

Again, this misses the objection. One of the important things people do 
with bugtrackers is *search for preexisting bugs*. Even bugs that were 
closed as INVALID or such on account of the reporter having a 
misconfigured system are useful as documentation for folks who are 
experiencing those same issues. Spreading such documentation out is 
unhelpful.
