Re: [hylafax-users] new community site

"The HylaFAX project" is a very nebulous term, and in the grandest sense
it involves not only people that are here, but people that are not
here. For example, is Sam Leffler part of "the HylaFAX project"? I
would say so, yes. In fact, I would say that it is [still] by _his_
"law" (as found in the COPYRIGHT file) that "the HylaFAX project" is
governed (and not more specifically some democratic process).
I enjoy the democratic process. I do. And I also think that a
benevolent presidency works well. The benevolent presidency exibits
problems when the presidency loses the benevolence attribute. And, the
democratic process begins to exhibit flaws when there are too few
participating in the process itself. (It's tough to function in a
democracy when there are but a few voters, and one says "yes" and one
says "no" and everyone else says "I don't really care, and I don't want
to get involved in a battle".)
Darren would like everyone to believe that "the HylaFAX project" is
already goverened democratically. This is not true. The HylaFAX
project is goverened by the benevolent presidency of Sam Leffler, who
has stepped away and has let the license govern in his stead. What
Darren is really saying, though, is that he feels _hylafax.org_ is
governed democratically. So there's a democratic state functioning
underneath the benevolent dictatorship of Sam Leffler's law. This is
fine. There still is room for other democratic states functioning
underneath the same dictatorship.
In any case I am certainly not trying to be dishonest. And I'm having
trouble seeing what motive there would be for me to so be.
Thanks,
Lee.
