No. All PCI devices have PCI ID on them, and the Linux kernel compares that PCI device ID against a device table to produce the manufacturer and model text name for them. The modems *are* using Lucent/Agere Venus chipsets, so it's close enough.


The Linux serial driver detects PCI serial devices such as these just fine, so you're using the "right" driver, yes.
