This is an opportunity to ask my [slightly] off topic question. I'm running RedHat 6.2 at run-level 3 [no X-Windows] and not interested in upgrading to RH 7 due to its problems, but have been thinking about either Mandrake 7.2 or FreeBSD for my HylaFax server. I have used Mandrake 7.0 and 7.1 before on some projects, and I like it. One thing I find a essential in the modern unix/linux software world is the ability to use the rpm technology, first developed by Redhat but now fairly common, and Mandrake does rpms. I certainly don't mind using gzip -d, tar, and make/make install, etc, and as a matter of fact this is how my Comtrol RocketModem driver is packaged, but there is so much software is available via rpm that I don't want to pick an os that can't do rpms. Lee Howard frequently recommends to install HylaFax from the rpm, which I have done with pretty good success. I was out at FreeBSD's website a few days ago, and got the idea that it can do rpms too. Sounds like you picked the tarball and not CVS, which I can understand. So my question is have you tried to install the rpm, and if so why not? Also does hylafax show up during boot-up, as it does for me? And after boot, what does ps -ax show? Thanks for entertaining my dumb questions, clay ----- Original Message ----- From: "Max Calvo" <max.calvo@maxcalvo.net> To: <hylafax-users@hylafax.org> Sent: Friday, December 22, 2000 2:23 PM Subject: [hylafax-users] Bad number > Hi all; > > This is my first post in this mailing list.
