Is this a symptom of hardware problem

Hi

I have a remote hylafax server that I administer and have a currently
intractable problem viz.

Machine is
Redhat 5.0 kernel 2.0.31
DAVICOM V.34+/FAX/VOICE/SPEAKERPHONE MODEM Ver:1.09I
installed from /root/hylafax-4.0-8.i386.rpm
When sending from the London server to here:

 Mar 26 20:18:55.70: [ 333]: REMOTE HANGUP: COMREC error (code 72)
 Mar 26 20:18:55.70: [ 333]: RECV FAX (00000070): recvq/fax00018.tif from
Alison Kaminer, route to <unspecified>, 0 pages in 0:36
 Mar 26 20:18:55.77: [ 333]: RECV FAX: COMREC error
 Mar 26 20:18:55.77: [ 333]: RECV FAX (00000070): session with Alison
 Kaminer
 terminated abnormally: COMREC error
 Mar 26 20:18:55.78: [ 333]: RECV FAX: bin/faxrcvd "recvq/fax00018.tif"
 "ttyS0"
 "00000070" "COMREC error"

I am now trying to test the modem from a hardware point of view and havge
attampted to dial-up to make a data connection with another modem.

On each attempty with various modems I get something like this on my
terminal when the modem "connects":

OK
a...0.....f.....f.f`f...

Could this be asign of hardware failure>

Thanx

If the Serbians don't get you, Microsoft will ... by crashing your computer.
