flexfax: Wedged Modem / Cannot Opem Modem Resolved

Thanks to all!  Everything is finally working.
David Wolley hit the nail on the head!

The problem was that I used /dev/cua0 for the modem.  Once I switched to
/dev/ttyS0, everything worked.

Just in case this is important for future reference, I'm running
Slackware 3.5 (2.0.34) on a clone with a Cyrix 586-200 processor.
