Hi. I have not come across 'UserPPP' (nor FreeBSD for that matter) but I
suspect your problem relates to lock files.

The html documentation has some useful info of this, and the revised docs
at :

	http://www.elgro.demon.co.uk/hylafax/

have been enhanced in this particular area, mentioning the race condition
that causes the 'Waiting for modem to come ready' message. Please see the

	"faxgetty and getty problems" and
	"problems with uucp, cu, tip, etc"

sections in troubleshooting.php, and the section on "UUCP Lock Files" in
setup-advanced.php.

These updated docs will be included in the v4.0.2 release, but there is a
tarball of all files at the site if you need them now (see index.php).

Good luck,

[ PS : Louis REINARD!  I haven't forgotten about faxmail.c++ and
TextFmt.c++, but I am very busy at work for about another week ].
