Re: [hylafax-users] USB modem suggestions for linux

Andras,

Ah - I was hoping it would affect the reception protocol and reduce my failure rates.

Emo,

That just set to force incoming faxes to be the same tiff format..
It was just set for compatibility with some windows imaging software...

Andras,

I compared your modem config with mine, and it looks like the main difference is that you have:

RecvDataFormat: "2-D MMR"

From the description, it looks like this affects the format of the received fax, but I don't know if this has more to do with storing the TIFF or with how the protocol receives it. Did you add this from troubleshooting a problem (failure rates like mine)? How did you come across this option?

Many thanks.

Can anyone suggest a really good USB modem for linux? (I'm using CentOS 5.2, related to RedHat Enterprise linux.) I'm out of serial ports, so I need USB. I've used MultiTech MT5634ZBA-v.92-USB modems under both Class 1 and Class 2, but they have high failure rates (10% - 20%). The suggested modems on HylaFAX's web site are really outdated.

Is anyone out there having really great success with a modern USB modem on linux? I need something rock-solid. Please let me know!

Many thanks. :)
