That would indeed explain it, the GS version is 8.71
What does adding the 2D=no to the config impact on, other than the call to ghostscript? Quality, maybe or transmission time?

Just wondering if theres any reason to remove it when I update to 6.05.

Probably you have updated ghostscript.
The default MaxStripSize had changed from 0 in ghostscript 8.70 to 8192 in ghostscript 8.71. This makes TIFF files created by ghostscript with default settings unusable for fax.

This problem should be fixed in HylaFAX 6.0.5, 4.4.7 and 4.3.10.
