Dear HylaFAX friends,

Thank you for your advice. Indeed, turning on the volume of the modem and
actually listening to the dial sounds indicated that there was something
wrong with the dial string. The modem produced a kind of double ring
instead of the usual short waiting tone, before the connection is
established. This made me realise that the dial string contained
irregular characters and that the appropriate dial rules should be
applied. Since the server is located in the Netherlands in Europa, I
simply needed to apply the dialrules.europe as the actual dial rules and
the problem was solved.
