Why so crude?
as said,
apt-get remove hylafax-server hylafax-client
(if I remember correctly)
dpkg --force-all -i hylafax_last_from_sfnet.deb

ln -s the libraries that I wrote

enjoy!

Try to execute the hylafax daemon (hfax) from a root shell (or uucp one) 
 and see if there are unresolved simbols. If yes, you have to link 
others  libraries.

If there is some problems and you want to revert to the previous 
version, simple remove the just installed hylafax+ (also with the dpkg 
-P that remove also the config) and... apt-get install hylafax-server
