Re: [hylafax-users] how to run faxgetty

Hello John,

I haven't really worked with Ubuntu much but from what I've managed to find with a bit of googling indicates that sysvinit has been replaced by upstart in Ubuntu.

I'm not sure what the reasoning is but there are quite a few posts on the net about it.  Think a good place to start would be to look here: http://upstart.ubuntu.com/

Good luck
Dominique

Hi:

I have attempted to find answers to the above question but what I've
found does not seem to work/apply..some help would be greatly
appreciated...

Run faxgetty:

I found that I should  do the following:
Edit /etc/inittab to include this:

s0:234:respawn:/usr/sbin/faxgetty ttyS0

(in my case, since I have a USB modem, ttyS0 should be replaced with ttyACM0)

Problem is, inittab does not exist in my system (ubuntu server 8.04).

How can I manually start and stop faxgetty?
How can I configure my system to automatically start faxgetty?

Much obliged....

-John
