Re: [hylafax-users] lowering the incoming modem speed

Hi All,

Indeed we have a 8 line incoming faxserver wich prints the faxes.

We had some problems with the 8 line config and our provider came to the
conclusion that some contries have compression problems on the line to
our provider. The provider asked us if we could set the baudrate for the
incoming to start @ 9600 B or even 4800.

Ofcourse we tolled them this was not a long term option.

So is this possible in this config :P

Kind regards,

I think that Hans was referring to the reception speed, and in that case

there is no guarantee that the sender will try different bit rates or
different modulations. One very common behavior for some kinds of
senders is to, when training down, is to skip right over all of the V.29

modulations because it overlaps bitrates with V.17 (and thus the sender
prefers V.17). In those cases, then, if it is a V.17 incompatibility,
the negotiated bitrate will eventually be 4800 bps (V.27ter) instead of
9600 bps (V.29), and in cases where V.17 is known to be incompatible it
is wise to disable it so that the sender does not attempt to use it.

But when HylaFAX is the sender... yes, you are correct for most cases...

usually HylaFAX will take care of the down-training automatically.

Thanks,

Lee.
