What kind of device is ttyc16? Sure, the modem is a USR. But what device is the serial device (serial port) on ttyc16?

Dec 11 21:44:39.54: [ 5082]: <-- [9:AT+FRH=3\r]
Dec 11 21:44:40.12: [ 5082]: --> [7:CONNECT]

The receiver is constantly responding with FTT to your training signals... so either there is some kind of audio corruption going on between your modem and the receiver, or there is an incompatibility between your modem and the receiver. (I guess there's also a possibility that something is just plain wrong with your modem or the receiver.)

The fact that the session went through both V.29 and V.27ter leads me to believe that it's not likely an incompatibility (because it would be an incompatibility on both modem protocols... which is significantly less likely to be the case). Most likely there is some audio problem between you and them.
