Re: [hylafax-users] No Local Dialtone intermittend

Hi Guys,

After double checking everything for a las time I found a UTP cable
(where 4 lines are connected to) Broken. This has now been double
checked with a cable tester.

After this change it looks OK this night we will send out 500 faxes and
I will let you know the result.

Big thanks to everyone.

Hi Hans,

Do you have the latest firmware and driver from MultiTech ? You must
ensure that your driver version is compatible with your kernel
version.... just because they seem to 'work' does not mean that they are
going to be reliable. If I remember correctly, the ISI uses a
proprietary driver.

Is this REALLY an analog line from the Telco ? You mentioned DID in one
of your earlier posts which could be an issue. Have you tried this at a
different location ?

Have you tried changing the country code of your modem ? Some modems
need to know where they are located in order to modify their behaviour
to match the local phone network. What country does the modem report in
Minicom (look at your user manual - probably a AT+GCI=? command).

If you connect a modem to the analog line and use Minicom to dial your
cell phone number does it ring every time ? Even if you do it 100 times
? Use a simple dial command to begin these tests - ATDTphonenumber.

Do you have a second analog line and fax machine in your facility ? If
you do then connect the fax machine and use Minicom to dial the fax
number. Does it ring every time ? Do you hear the CED tones from the
fax machine (this only works if you have a speaker on your modem). Now
try dialling the modem from the fax machine.... does the modem display
'RING' on Minicom ? If it does then try an ATA command to see if the
modem will answer the call.

What you are trying to do is to prove that the modem and line are
compatible and working. You are not expecting to see any errors. If
any of these tests fail then you should talk to MultiTech support
because this is not a HylaFAX issue.

I'm not sure what this tells us, but notice there is no "NO LOCAL
DIALTONE" error. Put this into your modem configuration file:

ModemDialCmd: ATX3DT,,0,%s

Make sure you don't add the 0 to your dialstring, since it will be
automatically added as you put it into ModemDialCmd.

Lee.
