It seems that the modem dials and then 11.4 seconds later it detects 
V.21 HDLC... but then after 10 seconds no HDLC data is received at all.  
So it aborts that operation and waits for silence... and it waits for 30 
more seconds... never hearing silence... and so it fails.

Does this happen with all receivers?

You'll probably need to use the iaxmodem "record" feature (see the 
README file) to record the call and look at it.  If you can't make sense 
of it send it to me.
