What we really want is a "flexible" way to allow user/admin to specify

It was both flexible and powerful before MIMEConverters were discarded.

The admin may very well wish to handle "text/html" differently from "text/plain" and yet differently from "message/rfc822". You lose that kind of resolution by using typerules because typerules serves a different purpose (typing from file inspection rather than typing from MIME headers).

That's one reason why MIMEConverters will continue in HylaFAX+.
