Re: [hylafax-users] Simulated receipt of FAX for testing purpose?
Hi Lee:
Thanks for the pointer. A quick review of the almost non-existent
documentation (their webpage at SourceForge does not appear to be
there...) informs me that t38modem is a virtual modem...OK, kewl...So I
install this, make two modems, associate them with COM 2 and COM4,
associate COM2 with the modem that hylafax expects to see, physically
connect COM2 and COM4 with a null modem cable, bring up hyperterm and
associate it with COM4. Now, I can play the AT command game and send
characters and signals from the sending program (hypertem) to the
receiving program (the t38 modem associated with COM2 which hylafax also
recognizes as /dev/ttyx0. So far, is this the right idea?
Now, how do I send 'the bits' of a fax from my hyperterm app? I
basically need a fake 'fax transmision sequence' complete with fax data
to simulate an incoming fax.....duh?!?!?!

I am wondering if there is a way to simulate the receipt of a FAX so
that I can test the conversion process, and then subsequently the
mailer? The purspose would be to bypass the FAX receiving hw, and
test if the rest of the down stream processes (e.g. conversion,
passing to email client, etc.)
Something on the sending side might be useful as well....a file to
submit to hfaxd, check if qfiles are properly generated, see if fax
job is scheduled, etc..)
If there is, could somebody explain how to do it?
You could use two instances of t38modem to send faxes between them to
do this. Alternatively you could also use two iaxmodem instances, but
that is significantly more complicated as it involves soft-PBX
installation as well.
Lee.
