I recommend you download the 4.4.0 release from 
http://www.hylafax.org/content/Debian_Packages, then re-run faxsetup and 
let us know if that resolves your problem with notifications. If not, 
please try running faxrcvd by hand as I described in a previous reply to 
this thread.
