Re: [hylafax-users] Modem Training problems

Hi Chris,

If you are using a Multitech modem then they do have a Linux firmware upgrade utility;

With regards to other upgrades they are strongly recommended....

Thanks Andrew,

we finally diagnosed this down to hardware failure with a pretty high level of certainty.

Will notify the list if we continue to have the same issues are hardware swapout. Not sure if we will be able to upgrade to recent versions of hylafax in this situation as we are working on a live production server taking debs out of the official ubuntu repos (dapper drake) to give us auto updates etc. Similar with firmware upgrades - Agere only provide windows firmware utils.

thanks for the quick response

Hi Chris,

If you are using a Lucent Winmodem then give up and return to your Venus.  Once you have your Venus modem check you have the latest firmware for your modem and use Class 1.0 (Class 2.x is broken on the Agere Venus firmware).

Upgrade to HylaFAX 4.3.2beta2 or HylaFAX+ 5.0.4 and try again.  A lot has happened to the fax protocol code in the last year and it's difficult to debug 'old' code.

If you still have problems, post another set of logs here together with details of your modem and firmware (ATI3 and ATI5 are normal sufficient).

Subject: [hylafax-users] Modem Training problems

Hi,

on a new install of HylaFax on Ubuntu, we had everything working for about 3 days, until we started to get training failures - the server can no longer receive faxes, but can still send. I have tried many, many different config options for the specific modem (agere systems venus modem (V90, 56K flex)), but always with the same errors. This is happening from any sender. I have attempted generating default configs (using default params) and hacking various lucent config files (this looks like a std lucent chipset), again with the same errors. I have also tried increasing all timeout values relating to TCF, as "MODEM TIMEOUT: receiving TCF" is prominent in the logs.

I have tested this as a class 2 modem, but get:
COMREC error (code 72)
errors - I gave up on this and focused on resolving the class 1 errors.

I have attached a receive log and modem config in the hope that others have tackled this before - I have trawled the web for 3 days without any luck on this specific problem. Any help would be very much appreciated. If any further log files etc are needed, please let me know.

regards

Chris McLean
