Re: [hylafax-users] LOG EXPLAIN

Hi,

For once, Mr Howard is a bit mistaken.

You see, HylaFAX treat RTN signal the way it should be as T.30 specifications.

But if you read the man pages for the RTNHandlingMethod, you will notice this:

"There is a non-written rule among fax developers,
that RTN means ``over and out'' -- hang up
immediately and never try to send the same page
   to the same destination again"

The sender in this case just sent the "DCN" (disconnect) signal,
probably because it doesn't respect T.30 specifications and not because it is incapable of retransmitting pages. I don't agree with that methode, but it seems we are far too small to make any decision in the fax world. I mean, why use the code that say "I got the page all wrong, please resend it" to say "Hey everything's fine, don't bother resend it"? Sometimes, answers are just plain dumb.

The quality of the received image was unacceptable according to your configuration settings, and so HylaFAX transmitted an "RTN" signal which requires says that the previously received page was not received properly and that to receive any more pages a retrain must occur.

The sender in this case just sent the "DCN" (disconnect) signal, probably because it's incapable of retransmitting pages.

See "RTNHandlingMethod" (for sender-side behavior) and "BadPageHandlingMethod" (for receiver-side behavior) here:
