Re: [hylafax-users] Multi-Modem Card Compatability
Hi Andrew,
Were these results obtained using Hylafax? I can clearly see the advantages
of V.34 over V.17 but what I'm most interested in is a board that will
definitely work under Hylafax. Does RockForce have an Australian distributor
that you know of? Does Mainpine supply to Australia?
cheers,
Andy

Hi Andy,
Yes, call times rise significantly with V.17 and with multiple lines this
quickly becomes expensive. Here's a brief overview of V.34;

You may also want to consider adding JBIG support to your HylaFAX
installation. Here are some recent results from our lab which compared
connection times when sending a 13 page ITU test fax;
RockForce IQ-F2 - 84 seconds
Brooktrout TR1034 - 97 seconds
RockForce QUATRO+ - 110 seconds
Brooktrout TruFax (No V.34 or JBIG) - 425 seconds

Thanks for the reply, Andrew.
I might have to think about whether or not the speed is acceptable. Are you
implying that cost would be high over time due to longer call times?
Cheers,
Andy

Hi Andrew.
The SCINTRA products only support V.17 (14k4 bps) which if you are using 8
lines is going to cost you a lot of money over time. It's also based on an
ancient Conexant chipset which might give you issues with warranty in the
future.

Subject: [hylafax-users] Multi-Modem Card Compatability
Has anybody had experience in using multi-modem cards with Hylafax? Their
website mentions only the Comtrol RocketModem cards which I can't find
available here in Australia.
I am thinking of getting a NetComm SCINTRA600 card, which supports up to 8
modem modules. NetComm supply drivers for Linux (Kernel 2.4 or later) so I
guess it works under Linux. However I'd really like to know if that
particular card, or any others that people know of, work with Hylafax. I
don't want to fork out over $1200 for a piece of hardware that isn't
compatible.
I'd be interested to hear about any experiences (good or bad) with any brand
of multi-modem card under Hylafax.
Cheers,
Andy
