The DCS signal was interpreted incorrectly. You probably have
Class1FrameOverhead: 2
in your modem config file. Please disable/delete this and restart
faxgetty. It was only appropriate in t38modem prior to 0.7.0.
I'm not exactly sure, though, why things work for you in 4.2.0 ...
probably due to some lucky-for-you bug in 4.2.0.
