Upon this advice, I've looked through the archives and asked Google,
and although I've found some amazingly wrong advice (such as to
disable AT support), I haven't found a working DIP configuration.

If anyone still has that solution, would they please send it to me?

My current DIP switch configuration is:

off: 1 2   4   6 7   9 10
on:      3   5     8
