Probably a little bit off-topic, but still...

We have recently moved from using multiple servers (4 in total) with 
multiple analog brooktrout cards in each one to a single server with 
HylaFAX and 32 virtual t38modems interfacing directly to a Cisco VOIP 
gateway.

There is no cost associated with fax cards of any sort - just the server 
machine itself (about $1,000 worth) (and the cisco voip infrastructure, 
of course)

Successfully sending approx 10,000 faxes per day, and receiving about a 
1,000 per day.

t38modem (written by Vyacheslav Frolov) - I cannot praise it enough.
