Re: [hylafax-users] error: Problem reading document directory

libtiff errors are directed to the TIFFError function, and so that would need to be worked in to the code here to see what's going on.

You're probably the third person in the last month that's reported this same problem. As 4.2.1 has been widely used for much, much longer than that, and as libtiff-3.5.7 has been around yet even longer, I would tend to believe that we're not looking at a problem with either of those two packages.

In the thousands upon thousands of faxes that I have overseen being sent from HylaFAX from versions 4.1beta1 through 4.2.2 I have never seen this problem occur.

My guess, then, is that something else is going on perhaps a common problem with some other package in the distribution? Search the archives to see if maybe those other posters were using the same distro as you. Maybe the distribution's libtiff build is bad. (?)

Lee.

Oh, I am running a class1 modem, using hylafax-4.2.1-1rh3 and libtiff-3.5.7-13
Applicable code in hylafax seems to be faxd/Class1Send.c++, line 404

if (!TIFFReadDirectory(tif)) {
           emsg = "Problem reading document directory";

but the error code from TIFFReadDirectory is not saved, so we cannot tell what went wrong, can we?

I have had hylafax running now for one week; 1100 faxes sent, and gotten this failure twice. In the last case, the first two pages were sent, but the third failed.
The document in question had a cover sheet (1 page), followed by a 2 page PS document.

Any idea where to look (or what to look for)?

Keith
