In your client program (Cypheus?) hopefully there is an option to 
specify the data format type (1D-MH, 2D-MR, or 2D-MMR).

It should be in the client program.  But if needed you could set "Use2D: 
no" in /var/spool/hylafax/etc/config.

No.  T.4 and T.6 data are not lossy.  You can decompress and reconvert 
all you want without any loss of image quality.
