Re: [hylafax-users] next release?

Hi All,
I notice that many times, users' problems are solved on CVS HEAD. I

wondering --- and so I expect other hylafax users might be too ---
about
the general development efforts. Could someone from the development
community of hylafax give a high-level status report?
Yes.
* what is the next release (4.2.0?) ?
Yes, the next release will be 4.2.0.
* what is missing right now? a comment from Lee ina recent posting
intimated that perhaps it mainly needed users to bang on it.
I invite all HylaFAX users who have the know-how to build from source
to check out HylaFAX CVS any time, not just at a pending release. But
basically in this case we're only missing the resolution of two
feature-enhancements that are slated for 4.2.0:
http://bugs.hylafax.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=77
http://bugs.hylafax.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=513
Assuming nothing big comes up between now and the resolution of those
things (should be very soon) we expect to begin a release procedure
immediately afterwards.
* where can one go to see the list of new features planned, as well as
bug
fixes (apart from bugzilla)?
CHANGES on CVS gets updated from time-to-time, and one can pull a log
from CVS, but basically you just have to ask. Since the list is long
and needed updating anyway I updated CHANGES just now. See:
http://www.hylafax.org/cgi-bin/cvsweb.cgi/CHANGES?hideattic=1&sortbydate=0
IMO, the "big" feature addition is Class 1 ECM, but all users will
likely benefit from something in 4.2.0.
* is this (the missing stuff) a lot of work?
There's not much left to do, no. Mostly just testing and debugging of
the items above.
* how can people help?
Thanks for asking.
Take a look at open Bugzilla issues, if there's something there that
you want to see included in the next release and if you can do
something about it then write some code. Likewise if there is
something you want that is not on Bugzilla. If you don't write code
but you can read documentation then we always can use documentation
help (both on the website and in the man pages). Also using CVS code
and pre-release releases can be helpful if you report back (good or
bad) and are available to assist in troubleshooting and resolving any
problems you may encounter. Also, responding with helpful responses to
questions on hylafax-users is helpful to us so that we don't have to.
Lee.
