Is there a way to have a host in hosts.hfaxd, and to also get admin privs when logging in from that host?

Hylafax matches the first entry found in hosts.hfaxd. So when you telnet in from localhost, it sees the localhost line and stops searching; the localhost line does not have administrator access. If you move the jonathan line to the top of the file, that line will take precedence over the others.
