Re: [hylafax-users] Hylafax doesn't know what modem to use

I have created the symbolic link, this is the contents of syslog;

Oct 18 13:13:54 FaxServer FaxSend[905]: /dev/faxCAPI: Can not initialize modem.
Oct 18 13:15:05 FaxServer FaxSend[905]: Unable to setup modem on /dev/faxCAPI; giving up after 2 attempts
Oct 18 13:15:05 FaxServer FaxQueuer[274]: MODEM /dev/faxCAPI appears to be wedged
Oct 18 13:15:05 FaxServer FaxQueuer[274]: MODEM WEDGED: bin/wedged "faxCAPI" "/dev/faxCAPI"

Oct 18 13:19:44 FaxServer FaxSend[915]: Syntax error at line 325, missing ':' in " }"
Oct 18 13:19:44 FaxServer FaxSend[915]: Syntax error at line 326, missing ':' in "}"
Oct 18 13:19:49 FaxServer FaxSend[915]: /dev/faxCAPI: Can not initialize modem.
Oct 18 13:21:00 FaxServer FaxSend[915]: Unable to setup modem on /dev/faxCAPI; giving up after 2 attempts
Oct 18 13:21:00 FaxServer FaxQueuer[274]: MODEM /dev/faxCAPI appears to be wedged
Oct 18 13:21:00 FaxServer FaxQueuer[274]: MODEM WEDGED: bin/wedged "faxCAPI" "/dev/faxCAPI"
Oct 18 13:23:01 FaxServer /USR/SBIN/CRON[926]: (mail) CMD ( if [ -x /usr/sbin/exim -a -f /etc/exim/exim.conf
]; then /usr/sbin/exim -q ; fi)

It seems as faxsend is not compiled correctly, yet I did an apt-get installation, so it should be fine. Does anyone know about this error?

Thanks in advance
Martin

HI Martin,

it's my fault.

I have forgotten to mention, that you have to do a sysmlink from /dev/capi20
to /dev/faxCAPI.
Don't forget to put the needed rights for /dev/faxCAPI20.

I have done a clean installation of the system installint debian all over
again.
I then installed the Fritz Capi drivers wich work fine. I apt-get
hylafax-server and all neccecery software.

After installing Capi4hylafax i get this message in the syslog

Oct 18 10:59:04 FaxServer FaxSend[443]: /dev/faxCAPI: Can not open modem (No
suc
h file or directory)

am I missing something?

Hello Martin,

your error message is really interesting. I've checked two servers
where I installed capi4hylafax (one SuSE72, one SuSE8.0), and I did not
found a
libfaxutil.so there, and c2faxrecv does not need it.

I think the best way is to use the binary from
ftp://ftp.avm.de/tools/capi4hylafax.linux without compiling it yourself, as
Viktor suggested. After unpacking the tar file you should only need to call
"./install".

Good Luck

Lothar
