It turned out that just recenlty, a co-worker installed some trial SSH
software, that created a 'virtual NIC' with no IP assigned. This caused
WHFC to behave silly.

Removing this software cured my system, but I guess a similar problem
might arise if there were really two interfaces in the box, so I suppose
WHFC needs to have something done about it.
