The original faxgetty line you had says start this process when I'm in
runlevels 2 or 3 and respawn it if it is killed. The line you changed it to
says start it when in runlevels 2,3,4,5. You've probably got your default
runlevel as runlevel 5. The first two letters of the line are just an
identifier used internally by the init process.
If you look at the top of your inittab file there should be a line like:
id:5:initdefault:
That's your default runlevel. Runlevel 5 typically means boot in graphical
mode and runlevel 3 means boot in text mode. So you can either change your
default run level or change your faxgetty inittab line.
