Hmmm... in general, it has seemed to me that if you're going to have fax incompatibilities, it is *most* likely to happen between 2 faxmodems, and least likely to happen between 2 fax machines, with varying degrees of problem in the middle. I'd suggest, before digging too deeply into debugging, that you try two things: make a call the other way (fax from the server to the laptop) and have someone fax you something from a "real" fax machine. My personal experience is mainly with MultiTech ZDX and ZBA 56 models, and my few clients running server seem to have very little difficulty with those.
